Just a little update and prayer request:
We are excited to say that our paperwork (Dossier) is in Colombia!!!!! This is so exciting. The paperwork has been translated into Spanish and is ready to go. We had a great discussion with our case worker about the next steps. We are so blessed to work with such compassionate and knowledgeable people. They are definitely in this business for the right reasons! After our conversation regarding our options we are excited to say that next week our file will be going to an orphanage. So, here is where you can help pray specifically!
*That we will be approved through the orphanage and they will start looking to match us with the children God has prepared us for.
*Also, financially …..that the rest of the expenses would be covered!
Thank you so much for joining us in this path that God is leading us down. We feel and see the blessings all around. It is so encouraging to have support from you! This process can be very long and discouraging but we know that this is right where we are supposed to be.
Super exciting news came to us this week! We knew we were getting close and had turned in all the paper work, however; we are officially APPROVED through our agency! This required a training, lots of paperwork, updates of paperwork, a home study, psychologist report, Dr. visits, pictures of our family and home, and more paperwork. This is a big deal because in the adoption world it seems you sit and wait A Lot. So, when you move forward you just have to celebrate!! We are so impressed with our agency and couldn’t have made a better choice for our family. They are so helpful and understanding. I pray that if you’re adopting, you get the same support as we have had. Our agency has been doing this for over 125 years. We are so blessed by their knowledge!
~pray that during the waiting we don’t get discouraged and stay focused on living each day to its fullest.
~pray for approval through the next few steps
~pray we find a sibling match for our family
~pray that the adoption fees will be fully funded
*Thank you for your prayers and support during this journey that God is leading us on. It is fun to experience it with you!
I love a good check list! Well, we are finally checking some things off of our list. A few days ago we completed our home study update. The majority of this was done so this was shorter than the last visit. The women who did our home study was very easy to talk to and made the experience very enjoyable and informative. We are blessed to have an agency with such knowledgeable people.
Below is our agency’s definition of a home study. It might be helpful if you are curious about what it entails.
A three-part process required before a child can be placed with a family for foster care or adoption: (1) Written portion includes autobiographies, references, medical reports, financial statements, child abuse and criminal clearances and other written materials; (2) Social work process includes a series of visits in the applicants’ home to discuss a variety of issues from the applicant’s background to their motivations to adopt and their understanding of adoption and parenting; (3) Educational process includes training in adoption and parenting issues. The end result of this process is a written document completed by a licensed agency giving a summary of the applicant’s family life. This document indicates approval of the applicant for adoption (or foster care). It must be updated annually.
In my post about us taking the MMPI,I mentioned that we had to meet with the physiologist before the home study was complete. Well, we are excited to check that off the list! This was a very detailed process. It is important that they really get to know us so we are prepared for this adoption and are matched with children that are best for us. We have answered a lot of questions. But totally worth it!
